Newbridge U6/7’s started playing in September 2018 and will play until 13th of April 2019.

From September until the end of November the main focus for the new players was fundamental movement, rugby specific skills like passing and catching, development of basic game awareness and the introduction of tackling (even though U6/7’s is ‘Tip’ rugby, basic tackle technique is introduced early as to develop the proper way to tackle from the beginning of a child’s playing experience).

From December onwards the focus moved to Game Play with the team enjoying fixtures against Athy, Blessington, Clane, Cill Dara, Naas, Portarlington and Portlaoise. The standard of rugby played by the young players was on par to that of other clubs. The Team will finish their season with an end of season Blitz in Old Belvedere Rugby Club on the 13th of April. All the players had great fun while playing the matches.

We had between 45-50 players, mostly boys but there are a few girls involved.  The group has 5 coaches, David Brannigan(Lead Coach), Sean Tracey, Garrett Holland, Brendan Duffy & Eddy Grant. The coaches were helped out during the season by some parents.

The support and involvement from parents and other family members is much appreciated. Going forward any help, be it coaching or just leading a hand is very much appreciated as with such a large group ‘many hands make light work’.

All players are encouraged to remain actively engaged in other sports during the Summer in readiness for the new Rugby season in September.
