Leinster League Division 2

Newbridge 19ย ย  De La Salle Palmerstonย  17

Newbridge took out the undefeated League Leaders at home in Rosetown on Sunday. This was a very open game and was well refereed by Ian Thompson from Tullow. Newbridge won by scoring three tries, two of which were converted to De La Salle Palmerston 3 tries of which one was converted.

There was very high commitment from the Newbridge team in this game. They had lost to Athy with an injury time try and drawn with Balbriggan again with a Balbriggan injury time try. They were now about to go up against the unbeaten League Leaders and came out on top.

From the word go Newbridge were charging into this game with a lot of determination. On 6 minutes a great break from scrum half Kevin Commane saw him run up field with outhalf Robbie Waters in support. Waters got in under the posts. Waters converted the try. De La Salle were off the mark in the 15th minute with a good try. All through the match De La Salle ran every ball to the wing and stretched the Newbridge defence. Their winger scored a good try which was converted by the outhalf. In the 21st minute wing forward Dinny Clarke was off injured and was replaced by Callum Reynolds-Source. Newbridge centre Oliver Feigan showed his strength and pace as he broke two tackles to race down the wing to score a good try. Waters converted to leave the half time score at Newbridge 14 points to De La Salle 7.

In the second half Stephen Cooke came onto the wing and Alfie Thompson at wing forward. De Las Salle scored in the 61st minute. Alex Mateus replaced Dave Morgan at prop on 64 minutes. Newbridge began to show their metal now and following good drive from Feigan in the backs Alfie Thompson got over for a good try to leave it at 19 points to 12. De La Salle threw the ball around and scored in the 79th minute.

Best for Newbridge were Will Jennings at hooker and Kevin Commane at scrum half while in the backs Oliver Feigan was outstanding in his tackling and driving runs and Eimhin Conroy all did well.
