Leinster League Division 2

Coolmine 20   Newbridge 13

This Leinster League match was played in ideal dry Autumn conditions. The home side have held the results over Newbridge for the last few games. Coolmine came out on top again gaining a bonus point with 4 unconverted tries to Newbridge’s 2 penalties and a converted try which also gave them a bonus point.

Coolmine had the heavier pack of forwards, and they dominated the scrums pushing Newbridge off a number of occasions. Their kicking game was not on song as they drove a number f kicks wide. Coolmine got their first try in a well worked move from the front of the lineout in the 19th minute. They got another fortunate try in the 24th minute after Newbridge missed a tackle following a garryowen when the winger kicked the ball on and scored in the corner. A few minutes later Newbridge centre Robbie Waters slotted a penalty from 30 metres out. On 34 minutes scrum half Mark Delaney showed his initiative as Coolmine mauled the ball 30 metres out only for Delaney to intercept the loose ball and go over for a try. Waters converted. It was Coolmine who put on the pressure and had a number of scrums near the Newbridge posts, but they failed to score before the break. The score at half time was  10 points each.

Newbridge determination and efforts in the tackling was very effective. However, the Coolmine scrums gave them plenty of possession and used it effectively.

Best for Newbridge were Jeff Draper at wing forward as well as Tom Treacy at No. 8. In the backs Mark Delaney at scrum half as well as outhalf Donal Cashman did well.

Newbridge: Cameron English, Will Jennings, Brendan Commane, Scott McMullan, Callum Reynolds-Source, Adam Bingham, Jeff Draper (Capt), Tom Treacy, Mark Delaney Donal Cashman, Paidi Davies, Robbie Waters, Dinny Clarke, Stephen Cooke, Conor O’Brien. Subs: Dave Morgan, Alfie Thompson, Mike Doyle, Fergal Doyle.

Newbridge are at home in Rosetown, Athgarvan to Athy on the 10th of October at 1500.
