Newbridge Rugby Club is delighted to announce that it will be running the Girls Give Rugby A Try program again this summer. Last year 48 girls registered and played rugby for 8 weeks, playing in several Leinster blitz’s and finishing up playing at the All Ireland Festival in August.

Because the club has such a strong link with local communities, this year the Girls Give It A Try program will be held on the Scoil Bhride Primary School Pitch, Monday evenings 6.30pm to 7.45pm, starting on 13th May.

It will also be held at Newbridge Rugby Club on Wednesday evenings 6.30pm to 7.45pm starting on 8th May.  Girls can attend one or other or both if they wish, the more the better to get a really good grasp of the game. The 8 week programme costs just €10 and this can be paid on the first evening at registration.

The programme is designed to introduce the game of rugby to girls age 10 to 14 in a safe and fun way.  Rugby is an all inclusive sport and can be picked up very quickly regardless of sporting background or ability. It is a great team sport and a great way to make new friends.

Our hope is that girls who complete the 8 week programme will finish up full of confidence, with a new set of skills and that they will consider rugby as a sport for them.  They will be invited to join some open practice sessions in the club in August and maybe then they might consider joining one of our teams.  Currently Newbridge Rugby Club, based in Rosetown, Athgarvan, fields U10 and U12 girls mini rugby teams and an U14 girls youth team.  In September the club will start a new girls U16 team.
