As part of rugby development in schools a 1st Year Schools 10-a-Side Rugby Blitz took place on Wednesday 25th January in Rosetown. Close to 120 young players took part in the Rugby Blitz which was hosted by Newbridge RFC. Every player who attended played and approximately 100 tries were scored in the 8 matches played. Players from schools in Newbridge, Naas, Kilcullen, Dunlavin and Athy took part. There was loads of skill, speed, agility and space awareness on view. All players had 'tonnes of fun'. For those who played full tackle rugby for the first time - WELL DONE.
It is planned to stage at least one similar event prior to the Easter break. A special word of thanks to the Naas, Athy and Cill Dara CCROs for their assistance today. Thanks to the schools and teachers also for their support of the event. Next up is the Primary Schools TAG Rugby Blitz for local schools in Rosetown on Wednesday 15th February.
What a great day of youths rugby in Rosetown last Saturday, 18th February. Congratulations to Newbridge Under 13s who scored a strong win against Portarlington in Leinster's McGowan Cup by 55 pts to 14. They will now play Athy in the third round. Watch out for fixture details. Commiserations to the Newbridge Under 17LL side who lost a high scoring match to North Kildare. The final score in this Culliton Cup match was Newbridge 29 North Kildare 39. Both games were very competitive with great rugby being played by the Newbridge teams.
Whilst the Under 13s progress to next round the Under 17s go into a Plate competition. Both teams still have a lot of rugby to play this season as their Leinster League campaigns are still ongoing as well as more Cup / Plate matches to come. Well done to both teams players and coaches. A big thank you for all the supporters who came out to cheer the players on and, most especially, for the parents who provided food for the teams afterwards. !! Great Cub Team Work !!
Hard luck to the Newbridge U17s in their Leinster League Division 2 Final played at Mullingar RFC on Sunday 26th March 201. Their opponents, Ashbourne, were excellent on the day and well worth their win.
The Newbridge team were well supported by a vocal crowd who had
travelled to Mullingar and a big thanks to everyone who made the trip.
The players have had a great league season this year, winning 7
consecutive games, including Division 2A, and were unfortunate to fall
at the final hurdle today. There is still plenty to play for this season as
the team is still in the Leinster Plate and a Midlands League Final. While
it didn't happen today this group of lads and their coaches have a lot
to be proud of and show great promise for Newbridge RFC's future.
Below, courtesy of Michelle Sharkey and "Game On Photos", is a
photograph of the Under 17 Squad from the league final including
coaches. Missing is one of the coaches, Patrick Commane, who had to
leave to help the 1st XV win their playoff in Tullow. Well done Paddy.

to Jer Delaney for organising.

Well done to everyone who attended Newbridge's "End of Season Youths Awards" held in Rosetown on Saturday 20th May. It was great to see so many in Rosetown both playing and supporting the teams. Each age group put on a display of TIP/TAG rugby followed by awards. The ages represented were Under 13 Girls, Under 13 Boys, Under 15 Boys and Under 17 Boys. Well done to all the players.
A special thank you to all of our the coaches without whose dedicated support we wouldn't be developing such a strong Youth section. Looking at the rugby talent and skills on display last weekend and over the season shows that all your hard work, time and commitment is paying off.
A big thank you also to Sharon Commane who dished up over 150 burgers and hotdogs to all comers. Sharon and her family have made a fantastic contribution to our club over the season.
Finally a message to all players and coaches - Enjoy the summer break, recharge the batteries and get yourself ready for an even better 2017/18 season.
Saturday 28th January saw two great results for the Newbridge Youths teams. Well done to ALL coaches and players.
Newbridge Under 13s travelled to Kilcock and turned in another great performance to defeat North Kildare by 17pts to 7. This was a great victory against a North Kildare team who had beaten Newbridge earlier in the league.
In Rosetown there was a feast of rugby as Newbridge Under 17s went toe to toe with a strong Dundalk team in Leinster's Culliton Cup. Newbridge were 15pts to 24 down at half time but a storming second period saw the lead swing back and forth several times in the last twenty minutes. Going into injury time the score was level. The Newbridge players dug deep and scored a brilliantly worked team try in the last second to claim the win by 34pts to 29!The future for our club is bright.
In Rosetown on Sunday 2md April Newbridge Under 15s defeated Portarlington to win the North Midlands Area League Final. Our Under 15s won emphatically by 36 pts to 15. A brilliant win and a well earned reward for a team that never give up. Come on The Bridge!!!
Good luck to Jordan Duggan, a product of the Newbridge RFC
youth system, who is representing Ireland Under 19s vs France
today, 11th April. Jordan, who is currently playing with Naas, has
strong links to Newbridge RFC and is in the middle of the back row
in the photograph below of the Newbridge Under 11s from 2009.
On Sunday 4th December Newbridge's Under 17 School/Youths played Seapoint at Rosetown. This was the first match in the Leinster Under 17 School/Youth Premier League. The result was a great win for Newbridge by 20 pts to 12. Newbridge had led by a point at half time.
Earlier in the weekend, on Friday evening under lights in Rosetown, Newbridge’s Under 15sdefeated Naas by 17 pts to 12 in their opening match of Leinster’s Under 15 Youth League Division 2. This victory marked a big turnaround from the team’s last game against Naas game. Well done lads, the team building on Curragh last Saturday really paid off ! Our Under 17 LL team were awarded a walk over on Saturday so gained the league win points.
>> Training - All players need to ensure they get out training this week to keep the ball rolling on our league campaigns.
>> Lifts to games - Parents are asked to contact coaches at training if they can support driving for away games so we can better plan for Saturdays.
Our success is built on the work we put in and all support is welcome.
As well as the success of our Under 17s we must also congratulate the
Under 13s who had a great win in Rosetown on Saturday 11th March in
their Leinster Premier League Playoffs against Enniscorthy by 46pts to 15.
They now advance to 5th/6th place match with either North Kildare or
Wexford. Hard luck to Newbridge Under 15s who lost away to Clane
Well Done to all our players and coaches this weekend.
On Saturday 11th February there was a good win for Newbridge's Under 17 Leinster League squad. The team travelled to Gorey and played in messy, cold conditions but came away with a 17 pts to 5 victory. Newbridge Under 17s now have secured six wins on the trot, which is a great achievement for these lads, and they stay top of their league. Well done to players and coaches.
On Friday evening, 10th February, under lights in Rosetown., Newbridge Under 13s played Athy. Despite playing with great heart, commitment and no little skill, Newbridge went down by 10 pts to 15 in favour of Athy. Keep up the good work lads.
There were mixed results last weekend from the Newbridge Youth teams. On Saturday 7th January the Under 13s travelled to Portlaoise but came up against a very strong home side. Despite playing well Newbridge had to give best to Portlaoise. The Under 15s played North Kildare in Rosetown who got off to a very strong start, scoring tries in the first half. Newbridge fought back well in the second half but the gap was too wide.
Also on Saturday Newbridge Under 17 Leinster League team had a great win at home against Edenderry. Newbridge scored three tries in the first half and ran out eventual winners by 43 pts to 19. Well done lads. On Sunday 8th January the Under 17 SY team played Cill Dara in Rosetown. Cill Dara's backline ran in three unanswered tries in the first half but Newbridge came back strong in second. With 5 minutes to go Cill Dara lead had been reduced to 7 points. Unfortunately Cill Dara got a penalty at end to move out of touching distance and make the final score Cill Dara 31 pts Newbridge 21 pts.
Congratulations to the Newbridge Under 13 team who, last Saturday 10th December in Rosetown, secured a hard fought but narrow Leinster League victory over Enniscorthy. Scoring 2 great tries, backed up by some excellent defending, Newbridge won by 14 pts to 12. Well done to all players and coaches alike.
However it is hard luck to Newbridge Under 15s, again on Saturday in Rosetown, who lost out to a strong Athy team in their Leinster League match. Both Under 17 teams were scheduled to be in action over last weekend but both games were cancelled. However the Under 17 Youths team were awarded the points (again) and now sit at the top of their league.
Congratulations and the best of luck
to Killian O'Brien who, this week, is
representing Newbridge RFC in camp
with the Leinster Under 17 Squad
Killian is a driving force in the Newbridge
Under 17 Squad. His commitment to
training and the game has been immense
as he progressed from the North Midlands
Area Squad through to Leinster.
Congratulations to Newbridge Under 17LL side who defeated Clane by 24 pts to 22 in the North Midlands Area Division B Final. The match was played on Saturday 8th April at the Newbridge College grounds. Well done to all our Under 17 players and to their coaches Evan Kavanagh and Paddy Commane.
Also on Saturday 8th April Newbridge Under 13s finished 6th in the Leinster Premier League after losing 31 pts to 19 against Wexford in the Play Offs at Portlaoise RFC. Well done to all Newbridge players and their coaches. Playing and being competitive in the Premier League is a great achievement..
Come on The Bridge!!!
Newbridge Under 17 Schools Youth team had a narrow loss to St Marys on
Monday evening in the Leinster Sschool Youths Plate Sem-Ffinal played in
Dublin. The final score was 27pts to 21.The Newbridge players played a
cracking game scoring three tries. They were pushing hard at the finish and
just missed out while attacking St Marys line at the final whistle. It has been
a great year for this squad who represented Newbridge at the Premier League
of Schools Youths competition and always gave their everything. Well done
to players and coaches for flying the Newbridge Flag so high. As with
Newbridge's Under 17 League team, this age group has been a great success
for the club this year and bodes well for the future as these lads move on
towards Under 18 next season with strong youths and underage teams
All Newbridge Youth teams were away this weekend and secured two wins from three matches. The Under 13s travelled to Wexford and pulled off a great win in a tough game by 18 pts to 15. Newbridge were behind with minutes to go but in the last minute a well worked try came after a sustained ten minutes of pressure. they was plenty of hard fought ball won in the rucks and the forwards worked well together. After the match the Newbridge coaches declared "We are very proud of our boys".
Newbridge Under 15s travelled to Roscrea where the result went against the
visitors. Newbridge fought hard but came out second against a very physical
Roscrea whose players received two cards during the game, a yellow and a
Finally Newbridge's Under 17 LL team were away to Balbriggan where, after a
shaky start our the visitors clicked into their stride and displayed their clear
determination to win. The second half was a great display of attacking rugby with
forwards and backs linking up for some great scores. The final score was
Newbridge 69 pts Balbriggan 10. Newbridge's Under 17 SY had no fixture this
