Newbridge Ladies 0
Kilkenny 25

Ladies Lose – Sunday afternoon and back to Rosetown for the first Ladies League game of 2011 against Kilkenny.

The pitch was a little hard but both teams wanted a game. Newbridge were short many regulars and had to borrow a few players from Kilkenny.

The referee also failed to show so the Kilkenny coach stepped up and thankfully his refereeing did not influence the result!

Both teams tore into each other from the start and it was pretty even for most of the half. The Kilkenny no. 8 (who I discovered played in the Dubai 7’s) was a constant thorn in the Newbridge side and carried well throughout the game.

Strong tackling especially from Orla Cullen and Kaylee Cogan kept them out but a sustained period of pressure resulted in a Kilkenny try. So it was 5 nil at half-time.

Kilkenny started the second half at a frenzied pace and scored two quick tries.

Newbridge slowly got going but match practice and fitness were starting to show and two more Kilkenny tries quickly killed the game off.

Newbridge fought till the end but to no avail. Kilkenny were easy winners in the end but Newbridge continued to show them have potential, if they could get their best 15 out training and playing they would easily get some wins under their belt.

Best for Newbridge were Orla Cullen and the ever green Mary Ashe and Laura Coates
